The goldfish is hand carved from dogwood; all the fins are made of natural bog oak; the eyes are composed of three elements of different colors—the red and white parts are made of bone, while the black pupils are made of a black buffalo horn plate. All the inlays are securely fastened, including with metal pins. In addition to the intricate work with the inlays, the piece also features a well-crafted design that makes the fish appear to be swimming upward; a fish swimming against the current is always a symbol of good luck. I accurately recreated the large, bulging eyes characteristic of this species of fish, its round, seemingly swollen belly, and its sinuous, veil-like fins and tail. Another important decorative feature is the combination of colors—yellow, red, and black. And of course, I tried to capture their characteristic fishy gaze, which I find quite amusing. This wooden telescope goldfish features a truly impressive number of hand-carved details: the scales, the lines on the fins, and the shape of the body—all crafted by hand, meticulously polished, and finished with hard wax oil. A meaningful miniature sculpture that works both as a decorative object and as a subtle symbol of luck, progress, and resilience.
